7 Restaurants in Bakersfield You Have to Try

Jon Fesmire | March 16, 2022 @ 12:00 AM

Bakersfield is a large city with 403,000 residents. It’s a hub of agriculture, too, so it’s no wonder there are some amazing restaurants cooking with fresh, local ingredients.

Here are our picks for the top seven restaurants to check out.

Lengthwise Brewing Company

When you want a craft beer and a meal, nothing beats a local brewhouse, and that’s what you’ll get at Lengthwise Brewing Company. They have 20 original brews on tap with creative names like Cowbell Pale Ale and Lengthwise Coffee Stout.

On the menu, you’ll find a lot of tasty starters and meals, like garlic fries, fish and chips, fish tacos, tri-tip steak sandwiches, plus salads, burgers, and a kids’ menu. Check the website for a full 360 degree tour of the pub.

Cope's Knotty Pine Cafe

Cope's Knotty Pine Cafe, established in 1998, serves home-style American cooking in a cafe with a log-cabin atmosphere. This restaurant is open daily for breakfast and lunch from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You’ll find on the menu that they serve a lot of scrambles with various types of meat like ham, bacon, sausage, turkey, and chorizo, or veggies like spinach and tomatoes.

You can also get fried catfish and eggs, sandwiches, soup, and more.

Eureka!

Eureka! is a chain restaurant, and thank goodness we have one in Bakersfield. If you love beer and meals made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients, you owe it to yourself to try this place. Enjoy craft beer, small batch whiskey, and even eat here with your dog, so long as they’re on the dog-friendly patio.

The menu includes snacks like mac n’ cheese balls, crispy wings, and char-grilled cauliflower. There are a variety of burgers, salads, and sides, plus desserts including bourbon barrel cake and butterscotch pudding.

Mama Roomba

Try some authentic Caribbean food at Mama Roomba. This family restaurant features Spanish-style tapas with a Caribbean twist, including island spices like allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, garlic, coconut, and cloves.

The Mama Roomba menu includes tortilla soup, spinach salad, pork flat iron steak salad, empanadas, chicharrones, calamari, prawns, chicken paillard, Havana style boneless pork chops, grilled salmon, and much more. Wash it down with beer, wine, sangria, or a mojitos cocktail.

Hungry Hunter Steakhouse

Want a delicious and filling meal? Then you should visit Hungry Hunter Steakhouse. It’s open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, from noon to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, and from noon to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. They have a large menu so get there a little early, or check the lunch and dinner selections online before you go.

There are a variety of appetizers like calamari fritti and crab stuffed mushrooms, salads like oriental chicken and southwestern salad, sandwiches like burgers, turkey, and chicken, entrees, including prime rib, filet mignon, and teriyaki chicken, and a selection of desserts. They also have a children’s menu so the younger kids don’t feel left out.

Chef's Choice Noodle Bar

With comfortable seating, good lighting, and splendid food, Chef's Choice Noodle Bar will have your mouth watering when you first open the menu.

At this Chinese restaurant you can order a variety of stir-fried and pan-fried selections, fried rice, curries, noodle soup, mango chicken, crispy duck, prime rib-eye steak, salads, and a lot more. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Nuestro Mexico Restaurant

Have you seen Mexican food like this? Nuestro Mexico Restaurant features selections that go beyond tacos, burritos, and enchiladas. On the menu, you’ll find items like shrimp wrapped with bacon, plantain tacos, caldo tlalpeno, albondigas soup, chicken or steak fajitas, grilled chicken with chipotle sauce, fish tacos, and so much more. There’s a kid’s menu, a selection of drinks including coffee, teas, lemonade, and sodas, and lunch specials. When you visit, we encourage you to try something new.
