Storage in Fresno: Everything You Need to Know
There’s a lot to love about Fresno, California. The city, whose name means “ash tree” in Spanish, is home to 530,000 people. Fresno started as a Central Pacific Railroad station in 1872 and was incorporated in 1885. Along the San Joaquin River you’ll find many of those hinted-at ash trees as well as plenty of lovely parks.
It’s known for its agriculture and the fact that it’s at the foot of Yosemite Valley, just an hour and twenty minutes from Yosemite National Park.
One thing you’ll often hear about Fresno is that it’s hot! This is true, during the summer when daytime temperatures are around 99 degrees and nights around 67. It does get comfortably cool in the winter, though. You can expect winter days to be around 55 degrees and nights around 28.
For California, Fresno is a surprisingly cheap place to live. The median home price is just $277,000, and the average rent is only $1,130. The median household income is lower than in many places though at about $50,000.
If you’re looking for higher education in Fresno, there are plenty of colleges and universities you can attend, depending on what sort of career you plan to get into. Four of the top schools are California State University, Fresno, Fresno City College, Public, Fresno Pacific University, and California Christian College.
College students tend to live in dorms, shared apartments, or with their parents, and often find that they don’t have quite enough room for all their belongings. Self storage at Derrel’s Mini Storage can help. Keep in mind that storage space rents for less, per square foot, than residential space. Instead of paying for a bigger apartment, keep those things that you need, but don’t need right now, at one of our Fresno facilities.
Amazing Places to Visit
As you’d expect from a city as big as Fresno, there are some really interesting things to do. Check out the Forestiere Underground Gardens, a homage to the Roman catacombs. Have a stroll through Woodward Park and stop for a tour of the Shinzen Japanese Garden. If you love animals, visit the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Woodward Regional Park is a beautiful, natural area with plenty of walking and biking trails, the occasional statue, and ducks and geese making it their habitat.
Weather, Travel, and Storage
A variety of factors affect how we run Derrel’s here, and two of the big things are the weather and nearby activities. By the latter, we mean camping and boating. There are many lakes around the area where you can take a boat for a day or more. Also, being so close to Yosemite, you might have an RV, so you can relax in comfort at night and go on hikes during the day while visiting the national park.
Because of the weather, which gets very hot and humid during the summer, and somewhat cold and dry in the winter, we provide units with climate control. These keep the temperature and humidity in a safe range for your stuff, all year long. Keep your off-season clothes, camping gear, and more safe with us.
Dog owners in Fresno have many options for places to take their pooches to play, including several dog parks. These include Dr. James W. Thornton Dog Park, Todd Beamer Dog Park, and Basin AH1 Dog Park. If you have a tough time grooming your cat or dog, or just want to hire a professional, you’ll find Shanon's Pampered Companions Pet Grooming, Wooforia Grooming Salon, or Noemi's Dog helpful.
Dining South of Yosemite
Every town and city has its unique restaurants, and with such a large population, Fresno is no different. Grills are particularly popular.
If you want some fine surf & turf, stop off at Yosemite Ranch Steak & Seafood, with everything from mixed green salad to ranch steak to grilled prawns. The Phoenician Garden Mediterranean Bar and Grill serves falafel, Mediterranean-style salads, different kinds of pasta, and more. Pismo’s Coastal Grill is not only a grill but a seafood and fish market. Their menu has seafood sandwiches, salads, tacos, and a lot more, and you can buy fresh fish to cook at home.
