At Derrel's Mini Storage, we love working in Modesto. Trees and parks give this small city of 200,000 residents a true California feel. Yes, you’ll find lots of urban spaces, too, with office buildings and shopping centers, so there’s a good balance between the ability to get things like work and shopping done, and taking time to enjoy the outdoors. Now, it can get staggeringly hot in the summer, up to 113 degrees, though the average high is 95. In the winter, the average low is about 40 degrees.
Modesto has an interesting history. In the 1870s, if you went on a trip by train from Los Angeles to Sacramento, one of your stops would be in Modesto. George Lucas’s 1973 film, American Graffiti, made Modesto popular even though it wasn’t shot there! Rather, it was inspired by the local cruising culture.
While Modesto has several lakes, little boating is done here. Still, we’re close enough to spots like Woodward Reservoir Regional Park and Modesto Reservoir that if you want to take your boat out on the lake for a day, you can, and this being California, there are always great places to stay in your RV nearby. That’s why we offer both boat and RV storage at Derrel’s.
Colleges within our city include Institute of Technology, a vocational school; Paul Mitchel, the School, a beauty college where students learn cosmetology and more; and Modesto Junior College, where students can get started in just about any field. The student population has more females than males, and these schools are all about learning new vocations or preparing for a four-year university. These institutions don’t have dorms, so students either live in apartments or houses with their friends or with their parents. Since students are often branching out on their own and need extra space, we’re happy to afford that at affordable prices.
Looking for something fun that will engage your mind? Check out McHenry Museum, which covers local history or try your puzzle-solving skills at Exit Escape Room Adventures. If you want to plan a fun day, consider Boomers, where you can enjoy mini-golf or cart racing, or head to Funworks, with its water ride, bumper cars, and teddy bear factory.
Cats tend to do great just hanging and bounding, around the house. Dogs really need that outdoor time, though, and several spots in Modesto have you covered. Of course, you can always take your dog out for a walk, but to really let them run around, you may want to take them to a dog park. There are many here, including Modesto Dog Park, C.R. Ranch Pet-O-Tel & Ranch Resort & Dog Park, Friends of Sophia’s Dog Park, and Lathrop Dog Park. Phew! And, if you need supplies for your pet, check out Petpromart.
In every city, there are at least a few local restaurants everyone should visit. For Modesto, we suggest The Taproom Pub and Grub with its American and Mexican choices, Bella Italia, boasting the best Italian food in Modesto, and Skewers Kabob House, because kabob is amazing.
There are lots of employers, large and small, here. Major employers include Kaiser Permanente, Apple, and Ernest & Julio Winery. The median family income is $60,000. The median value of a single-family home is $332,000, and the average rent is $1,281.
Remember that if you need extra room for your personal or business items, self storage costs less per square foot than residential or commercial space. Check out our units at Derrel’s, including the various sizes, or give us a call.
